Amethyst Place - Where Families Come to Heal

It is estimated that there are over 14,000 homeless individuals in Kansas City and that the city has a shortfall of over 20,000 units of affordable housing for low-income families.

Imagine not knowing where you and your children will be sleeping tonight. For women struggling with alcohol and other drug abuse, this is their reality. Finding safe, affordable housing is crucial for them and their family. In order to maintain sobriety, women often need new housing since many factors prevent them from returning to their former residence. With need severely exceeding availability, options for these families are limited. Keeping the family together without housing makes recovery an enormous challenge that few would be able to face and overcome without assistance.

To fill this need, in May 2000, Amethyst Place opened its doors as a safe supportive home for women in recovery and their children. This environment allows women and their children to start a new life by helping them to build and practice new skills and assisting them in preparing for independent living within their community.
